Purdue Northwest seeks a collaborative, inspiring leader to serve as the inaugural Executive Director for Diversity, Inclusivity, and Belonging. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the successful candidate will have primary responsibility for supporting the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented students (e.g., students of color, low income and first-generation, and LGBTQ+ students), including PNW's TRIO and 21st Century Scholar grant programs.
The candidate’s education, perspectives, and experience should enable them to provide leadership, to coordinate activities that build and maintain a diverse and inclusive faculty, staff and student community. Experience leading TRIO programs is highly desirable.
Duties include the following:
Develop programs, spaces and communities that support underrepresented students’ sense of belonging and academic and professional success, with a primary focus on first-generation, female, and LGBTQ+ students.
Collaborate with academic and administrative units to advocate for and advance diversity, and to promote an inclusive campus climate.
Develop, implement and maintain methodologies to assess PNW campus climate with respect to diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
Monitor national trends, peer institution efforts, and seek benchmarks for successful diversity initiatives.
Serve as a resource for education and training in bias, tolerance, and anti-racism.
Provide administrative supervision for the following department and functions: Upward Bound; Educational Talent Search (Hammond and Westville); 21st Century Collegiate Scholars Program; Student Support Services, and the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program.
Support the compliance and fiscal management of PIs on TRIO grants
Compile data, write, and submit required annual reports to the Department of Education documenting program outcomes and accomplishments.
Support the writing and renewal of TRIO grants and other relevant grants.
Promote awareness of TRIO programs in the community and on campus; foster collaborative relationships between TRIO offices and other academic units.
