Join our Upward Bound/Upward Bound Math and Science team in supporting students across Maui with academic support, guidance, mentoring and more! The Upward Bound program at UHMC serves two hundred and five (205) students at seven (7) Maui County high schools including: Lanai, Molokai, Maui, Baldwin, Hana King Kekaulike, and Lahainaluna High Schools.
TRIO/Upward Bound Program Planner coordinates and plans career exploration activities, makes preparations for standardized tests, and researches postsecondary options for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade participants, with the goal of college enrollment immediately after high school graduation. This includes conducting ongoing needs assessment, creating individualized plans of service, monitoring/documenting participants’ progress in activities designed to promote successful college enrollment, and maintaining a database of detailed student academic records. Duties include the following:
Plans and implements curriculum and activities for the program participants throughout the academic year and summer, including leading workshops one (1) Saturday per month to accomplish program goals and meet requirements.
Works with neighbor island program staff to ensure all students are being served including students who are located on Lanai, Molokai and other locations. Will make travel arrangements for neighbor island students and gather supplies needed for activities.
Recruits, interviews, and orients new program participants. Delivers public presentations at target schools.
During the six (6) week summer component, plans and leads summer classes, activities, weekday field trips, and college tours, which includes driving participants to activity sites.
Participates in the recruiting and hiring process, and trains and oversees University of Hawai‘i Maui College (UHMC) mentors. Coordinates or oversees the work of student assistants.
Participates in program evaluation through follow-up surveys. Recommends and implements approved corrective measures to assure the needs of each participant and program objectives are met.
Assists Director in preparation of Federal and University reports.
The position calls for flexibility to special program hours (including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays) with advance notice. May travel out-of-state to attend national trainings and chaperone college tours.
